Rounded and lovely, with plenty of sweetness to qualify as a dessert wine but not near enough to seem sugary, with a beautiful balance of stonefruits, lemon, and a refreshing petrichor/pebble note that always brings me joy in a Riesling.

Pours nearly clear in the glass. Super purity. Clean. It is '18 in its ripeness and there is lower acidity than I'd ideally like. Juicy green apple, ripe, lush in the middle, but medium weight. Maybe lacks some of that inner core mineral edge. I find it rather easy drinking still and a nice compliment to spicy sichuan.

A touch of sponti at first... moving to the background with some more air. Notes of peach, citrus, some slate, smokey minerality, also some saline notes, apples, also some cassis and red berries. It‘s medium bodied, with excellent mid-palate persistence, has medium-high acidity and very balanced sweetness, this is clearly a „drinking Auslese“ and not something overly sweet. Good length too. Really nice.

Some Hofgut Falkenstein at Red&White (Red&White Wines, Chicago IL): The nose is poised and aromatic with refined tones of green apples, apricots, nectarines, peaches, ginger, white flowers, saline, and some match stick notes. There is excellent complexity and balance with a real deliciousness. The Light bodied feel is deft and silky with racy, high acidity. The acidity has a lot of cut and provides a real lovely spine. This is clearly a newborn and there is plenty of room for development in the coming years.

2018 Falkenstein at Red and White (Chicago, IL): #05-19. Definitely no Prädikat creep going on here. The noise shows a little more sponti than I'd like, though that may be because of the relative youth of this bottle. I can't help but feel that there's something slightly dirty here on the palate, like there's a little bit of unclean rot. Just a hair sweeter than the Spätlese, this too lacks that intense mineral core of the Alte Reben, and while there's adequate acidity, that racy intensity that seems to define the Falkenstein wines isn't quite there.
