Served by the glass from a Coravin Extremely tight and closed off at first, only really opened up after 45 minutes Please give this a decant or more time in the bottle Classic Cornas notes, with perhaps a bit less animal notes but more mineral notes than expected A very well made wine that is suitable for ageing or early consumption if decanted Medium tannins

Third Coast Soif (Chicago, IL): Bonus wine at the Rosenthal table. Archetypal stuff; quite restrained for the vintage in terms of fruit, but very generous tannins.

Drank from a decanter over 5 hours. This seemed to show something different every hour--started off closed with gritty tannins and a deeply mineral note. Then the fruit started to emerge--red and black berries, with fresh cracked pepper and smoke coming through. On the last glass, this became lush and juicy, with a stemminess adding freshness. Wish I had more--this is a beautiful wine now, but has plenty to go the distance.

From younger vines and a higher elevation plot, which explains the freshness and 13% alcohol in a year like 2018. However the hot year does show through in the darker fruit and a little jamminess that subsided on the second day. More typicity than the Garon, some white pepper and meatiness going on with juicier fruit and a better finish. More floral and a deeper flavour on the second day. Based on this, I am putting my normal Cornas away for a few years yet.

Rhone blind over Burg lunch at Wah Lok. Drank in Grassl 1855. 1 day old sample filled to brim in small glass bottle. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of fresh meat, blackberries, black cherries, violets. Youthful. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of intensely sweet crushed blackberries, black cherries, licorice, wild fresh meat, black pepper spice. Long finish. Very good quality. Conservative score and there could be more upside with more age. I was guessing quite young 2016/17/18 kinda age range Cote-Rotie or new age Cornas made in a more approachable style.
