Good deep purple red color, came together quite quickly in glass after opening, dark blossoms, intense crushed berries, blackberry and racy chalk notes on the nose, on the palate- like the 2016 recently tasted a great generosity of deep and smooth fruits, blackberries, as on the nose a particularly intense crushed berry, chocolate and dark cherries, relaxing in its way despite its sheer size, fine long finish, with time in glass the presence of the imposing structure became more evident though the wine remains a pleasure to drink, Dow is the larger and grander wine this year- but the Noval with that great tense crushed berry note has a more burgundian appeal to it that offers just as much promise as the Dow for the long term and will hopefully yield a wine of great subtlety.

deep colour as you'd expect in a vintage this young. Deliciously ripe nose, sloes, dark spice, floral notes - very complex A real smoothie on the palate, very ripe tannins, notes of dark chocolate, fresh acidity, balanced sweetness, ripe and hedonistic, lovely This has all the making of a classic vintage

Lovely nose - floral, dark fruited, spicy, pure, intense. Lots of depth on the palate, layers of fruit, quite spicy with powerful but well-integrated tannins. Great acidity, impressive length. Very promising. 95-96+

Vindredi (2016 Ports + California Cabernet) (Bellevue, WA): Lovely, sweet and ripe nose, with a body to match. Grape, fig, flowers and raisin. Nicely balanced with good fresh acidity.
