Noval VP mini-vertical (P81): Dark plum fruit and an intense black pepper note. Beautiful young VP with a dense sweetness. Spices and almonds in the aftertaste. Great potential!

Very dark, with a sweet nose showing candied cherries, beeswax, pistachio nuts. That dominant sweetness continues on the palate, which is rich and soft, but still has a jammy dimension and feels a bit unbalanced because of it. Quite good, but misses the bar for greatness.

This a great bottle of Port that remains in a slumber at 14 years of age. The palate is a deep dark cherry colour with an initially muted nose that opens over hours to reveal scents of dark plums, black cherries, violet and lavender. The palate reveals rich and viscous flavors of black cherries, garnet plums, dark chocolate and liqorice all up against a wall of fine powdery tannins balanced with lovely spirit. While best cellared for another 10 years there is plenty of joy with adequate aeration.

Only 14 years old which is grossly insufficient for a VP. I opened it after reading that it was worth a look. It is relatively easy to drink and has superb flavour, but is SOOOO young. My remaining bottles won't be touched until my 90th birthday which is a while off. Even then it will probably only be half way.
