Light in color with hints of its age. Well balanced and very elegant. But on the other side fairly light weight and for this great year not as good as expected. Drink up!

Peter's 40th Birthday celebration at Nicolas. This was an absolute step up, a real show stopper. Now, all the wines thus far were impressive in their own way, but this really represented a significant upgrade. Ex domaine bottle. Bright ruby red, so alluring. The nose was drop dead gorgeous, Musigny like, in its elegance, floral notes, rose petals, sweet and ripe cherries, freshly plucked strawberries. The bouquet was just so vibrant, elegant and balanced, with the right amount of acid. The palate was absolutely incredible. The red and blue fruits were intense, rich, ripe, vibrant and just so in tune with the acid and tannins of the wine. There was lovely structure and complexity. Some coffee, caramel, brown sugar and honey after time. An absolutely amazing Bonnes Mares, this has been one of the best reds I've had this year.

Ripe and simple on the nose. Attractive red fruit and good balance on the palate but lacking complexity.

Zachys La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Boulevard - San Francisco CA): Small glass, brief note. Lighter, elegant style for a Bonnes Mares. All red fruit, with a slight ripeness coming through on finish that is quite nice.
