After hitting a wall with an ‘02 Rousseau village Gevrey earlier, gave this a try and it is equally clenched and unforgiving. Previous bottle of this a few years back was in an awkward phase. Plenty of good underlying material here but, like many Gouges wines, this one require at least a few more years’ patience. Day 3 (after a spray of Argon and refrigeration), nicely relaxed with plenty of fruit still. Patience,....

This was in a very awkward phase right now; nose of cola, aromatic bitters, tree bark; savory notes with rhubarb come out on the palate; dried rose and an odd overripe strawberry thing working as well. Some nice components to it but really need to gel into something nicer.

Pure, maturing ruby color. Wonderful nose that has notes of pure Pinot fruit, scorched earth and violets (and a touch of dish soap). The palate is more meaty and full but still shows balance. Rugged and youthful. There is a bit of bitterness on the bad end that I don't like very much. (88)

Light ruby, all burgundy on the nose with smoke mocha, forest floor, black cherry, baking soda with hints of brown sugar and bacon, sweet on the tongue but buffered by tart and complex red and black fruit and spicy tannins, finish is long, complex and lingering with more spicy tart fruit
Note: Showing no signs of age, as fresh as a 2009 bourgogne

Really excellent. Decanted for about 4 hours. Lovely fruit, light tannins.
