At 25 years young, this old school Gouges has finally arrived. Plummy fruit and wet leaves on the nose. Sweet, savory black fruit and ferrous earth tones on the palate. Tannins are completely integrated, acids are polished and the mouthfeel is almost velvet. Just a superbly balanced, mature wine that offers a multitude of secondary nuances yet retains its youthful primary fruit.

This opened quickly to give sweet black fruit, tea, baking spices, coffee, dusty earth and a hint of animale. Fresh and pure with plenty of still-grippy tannins. Complex and beguiling. Drinking very well right now and a superb match with simple roasted chicken.

Consistent with prior note, this is drinking really well but still seems to have the stuffing for further development. Enjoyed this bottle very much.
