  • 13x Pinot Greatness: Tasted double blind. Again a fantastic Pinot Noir from this winery and the crowd favorite tonight. Layered, highly precise, quite perfectly structured and with an impeccable balance. One of the best Swiss Pinot Noirs in this form.

TN: Dark fruit and smokey nose. Classic Pinot beauty. On the palate with dark fruit, some coffee notes, minerality, stems. Beautiful mid palate weight and sweetness, good, long and expansive finish. Fine and airy, perfectly round and harmonious. Superb.

    Decanting: No extensive decanting needed.

  • Expressive nose with earthy elements, sweet spices, some coffee and vanilla as well. Excellent tannins, very good mouth feel. I gave it 94-95 blind and was not surprised that it became the WOTN for the group. It pleases the connoisseur and large crowd alike. Well done team Kuntzer, clearly a rising star in Switzerland.

  • Mostly Champagne & Burgs (VVF, Krug, DP, Rousseau, Fourrier,…): Tasted double blind. One of the big surprise of the tasting, this to me unknown Pinot Noir from Switzerland came surpassed many heavyweights in this tasting, partly of course, because it is more mature (despite a younger age) than Burgundy Grand Crus. The wine has a lot of depth paired with good complexity and despite a few hard edges is already in a beautiful drinking window but has the structure and fruit to age further. Burgundian in style, this is a stunning achievement from this winery.

TN: Medium expressive nose with nice candied soft and round fruit with strawberries, blueberries and even some black hints. Some candied fruit. Then a lot of spices. On the palate this explodes with a ripe but not too ripe fruit core, stems, minerality, some herbs and spices, cola. Not as well defined as some other Burgs tonight but still on a good level. High quality tannins but still a touch masculine, medium acidity, creamy texture with good presence from the attack to the finish. Quite complete showing.

Decanting: Not decanted, no extensive decanting necessary.

  • Tasted blind. A serious wine in a Burgundian style, stood up to Chambertin Grand Grus in this blind flight. Was more ready to drink and therefore had an edge on expressiveness, a bit less stuffing for the long haul. Beautiful aromas of red fruit with whole cluster. Crisp, elegant long. It confirms that Neutchatel (eg, Tatasciore) my in the end surpass Buendner Herrschaft when it comes to producing the best Swiss Pinot Noirs. 94-95

  • Tasted blind as part of a Champagne and Burgundy tasting (plus pirates). Spicy with a good amount of earth and leather, mixed forest berries, flight like a feather, amazingly light, fresh yet with lots of fruit. The texture is pure silk. Amazing how well this shows this young!
