The cork was dry and broken upon extraction, which was very odd considering it was purchased from a reputable wine shop and cellared properly on its side ever since. The wine luckily was fine, and approachable. No decanting and was ready to be enjoyed. Wonderful signature pungent profiles of seashore, oyster shells, Parmesan cheese rind, grounded almond paste, flowers. For a warm vintage the fruit was not as vibrant with mostly lemon and green apple. In a short period of time, oak notes started to dominate but was overall well controlled and elegant. But shortly thereafter the oak became pervasive in a less controlled way, that eventually faded with time, but came back again once the glass was topped while the bottle was in the ice bucket. I don’t know, the oak / refined pastry cream notes seemed a bit too Côte d’Or like during sporadic moments and affected the pairing with food. In comparison, I think Dauvissat handles 1er cru in 2018 much better and in a more balanced style that I prefer. For now I think the village 2018 is more enjoyable than Montmains 2018. I am not so sure this will fare better with more age.

Absolument magnifique ! Grand vin,

Citrus pith and oyster shell served on a razor blade. Some flesh and light cream appears with warmth and air. A slight bitterness on the finish fades with time.
