Somewhat of a disappointment over three bottles. Just shy of Varietally correct but yes. Overly robust and fruity without the depth and character of a decent Cab. It’s ok, just probably better choices at this price point. Had high aspirations for Lapostolle dating back many years, but overpriced for the lack of quality

dark purplish ruby with substantial body in the glass. generous nose of dark ripe fruit (blackberry, cassis, plums) with a heavy accent of smoked meat, some spices and tobacco, and just whiffs of bell pepper. ample and full in the mouth, the abundant fruit flavour just hold their own against the strong tannic core and are lifted by a palpable acidity. plenty of pepper and spice add depth and continue with very good persistence.
big wine, in the house's "Cuvée Alexandre" style that needs lots of air and to my mind could benefit from a bit more bottle age for better tannic integration. there is some upside potential here.
14.5% AbV; 85% CS (half from old vines that produce very tannic and rustic wine, half from newer vines that produce more supple wine)/ 10% CF/ 5% Carmenère; fourteen months in French oak (17% new).

Drinkable, but no cigar. Nothing wrong, except that it wasn't very interesting.

Nearly a year later and it is starting to open up. Still so-so.
Bottom line, trying to find a really good Cab in this price range is a fool’s errand

Excellent. Has years to go, but a plum blackberry wine now with the tannins soft enough to be comfortable.
