Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 93.5 points

  • Vibrant bouquet. Flavors are of boysenberry, cherry, black cherry and some black licorice. Elegant texture. Tannins are still medium to firm. Still has plenty of room to age.

  • Decant for a couple hours. Mouthwatering wine, needs a couple hours in the decanter. Blackberry pie.

  • Nicliani Portfolio tasting (Beef bar): The wine shows highly extrovert profile, highly extracted, ultra ripe black fruit, cherry, currant, very dense oak, licorice, cinnamon, clove, coconut, coffee, alcohol heat, caramel, nutty and almond notes.
In the palate, the wine also shows full body, oaky and spicy, alcohol heat, very tight tannins, earthy, aggressive, unforgiving, med finish

  • Paired with a Wagyu Rib Cap, which stole the show. The DB4 decanted for approxately 2 hours and consumed over an additional 3 hours out if a Sensory glass.

The wine might be a little shut down, as the nose and flavors were slightly muted. The nose was of flowers and baking spice. The taste was of a young left bank Bordeaux with blue and black fruits with hints of spice and led pencil. The tannins were medium but firm. The acidity was medium- and the length was full. It was not overtly concentrated, in a good way.

This was a very nice wine. It may need a few more years to truly show its colors but it is pleasant today with a decent decant. Today's score is 93 with upside to possibly hit 94-96 points with some more time in the cellar.

I don't have much experience with Bryant's DB4 and 2017 was a down vintage but for my taste and money I prefer something in line with a Bevan Ontogeny or Realm Bard. However, the 2017 Ontogeny was a down year for me and maybe that's the same with this DB4

  • deep purple-red color, pepper and cassis on the nose, on the palate quite extracted and undeniably hot, some deep cassis fruit concentration and a very firm structure but already starting to get imbalanced, big on volume but lacking in harmony.

**, drink soon- its youthful power is its best feature
