  • Quite deep in colour, with purple still predominant, however a little reddy-brown is creeping in at the rim.
Meaty/savoury/leathery nose even a bit of bovril in there, however there is some richly plummy fruit backing this.

The medium-full palate shows decent balance, with some youthful peppery fruit in support of more meaty/leathery flavours that form the core. The acidity which seems aligned to the peppery fruit, keeps it nicely refreshing, and although not being overly big, it is needed to give refreshment to that meaty core. Tannins still present but not overly grippy.

Overall plenty of character here and certainly ready to drink, albeit no harm in keeping for a good few years yet.

  • leather and dark fruit on nose leading into tea tree and firm tannins on finish which supported a French duck and bean stew very well. Delicious but not quite as impressive as the 2001 Domaine Tempier - La Migoua I had last month.

  • Drank a bottle with braised duck legs. Dark ruby. Sweetness was there - reminded me of a Sonoma zin from a good maker, with high toned cherry, plum and bramble flavors on a medium-bodied frame. But turns classic mourvedre on the finish, with iron and meat taking over, and some dry but integrated tannins. Lovely.
