A extremely tannic and alcoholic wine, much more so than the 2016, which is lithe and supple in comparison. The label states the alcohol is between 14.5% and 16%, and I would bet it’s at least 15.5%. This may be enjoyable in five years and very good in ten years, but right now it is neither. Tasted two bottles with same results.

Decanted 1.5 hours and drunk over a couple more. Opaque black with a ruby rim. Smelled ripe blackberries, cassis, unsweetened chocolate, iron; tasted the fruit and tobacco notes. Big and burly and a little hot, but with good acid/tannin balance. Finishes long and fruity fading to the unsweetened chocolate.

Took this as a beak wetter to a christmas pot luck. Did I ever mention how much I love pot luck gatherings? :-/ Nothing but French fruit roll ups...Never the less, preferred this way more to the California wines people had brought. Descent acidity, I think this will peak early in about 3 years and god only knows what will happen during sunset. Drink or Hold

Great QPR. Full bodied and fruit forward, more in the modern style but not over done.
