I don't remember the last time I smelled this in a wine. Mint mixed with rose and violet notes. Somewhat like and old Pomerol. The mouth is still vibrant and silky at the same time. What a wonderful wine. Wish I could drink more of these!

Not entirely sure about this bottle; I thought it was a little too funky and perhaps even showing a slight bit of TCA. But it was quite clear that there was some really hefty (and good) material in this wine. Very dark fruited, with a bit of a rustic edge and definitely the expected Hermitage heft.
Intronizzation Night for Rhone (Lafayette): Great year of wine and one of those kindof off the beaten track producers (we brought a similar bottle with the Burgaud Cote Rotie from 85). This was quite lovely. A touch gamey which I appreciate.

Fully mature, the last bottle from the cellar was as you might have guessed, the best. Meaty, stony, crisp, sweet and tart red berries, wet earth, leaf, pepper, herbs and tobacco notes were all in plain view. The wine was focused more on the aromatic complexity than weight or length.

Rhone North & South 1990, with Richard Brazier (Handford Wines, London): Open and developed nose, nice floral notes, dark fruits,. Quite a bit of ripe fruit here, lush fruit and the palate shows no signs of earthy character. Dark and intense wine and very impressive. A very good surprise.94
