Still very reticent, but full of purpose. Got more friendly after 2 days, with the super high acidity mellowing out and letting more complexity emerge. A slightly puzzling Hermitage, kind of stuck maybe permanently in between stages.

Rhône or Nôwhere 2022 (Malcom, Nebraska): This one was unplanned and got slipped into the flight towards the end. I had no previous experience with the wines of Bernard Faurie so there was no real fanfare. This was a stunning showing. Lovely fruit still but it was the added complexity of secondary and tertiary characteristics that really impressed. Everything seemed to be in balance and really showed what properly aged Hermitage can do…and it really is quite special.

A testament to the fine winemaking talents at this property. This bottle was lean and green as one might expect from the vintage. But it was more than vital (I doubt the same could be said for most wines from 87) and offered some complexity and intrigue. A very good wine.

lack complexity for a wine of 1987. no tertiary flavours at all. primary aromas mostly gone except for the first few sniffs poured from the bottle. only secondary oak. acidity too high.
