Roasted but deep black cherry with smoked meat and other savory notes. Has the roasted aspect of the vintage but isn't heavy or showing overly alcoholic (thought listed at 14.5%). Really satiny texture with a bit of chew. Fruit really carries through the finish. Drinks really well. A treat.

Tasted twice this wine is a mess, totally overripe with jarring tannins and a finish that leaves you wanting less. I've stuck it in the back of the cellar in the unlikely hope that a couple of decades will turn this very ugly ducking into something palatable.

Bernard Faurie Hermitage Flight (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Very deep and thick looking. Oversized, multidimensional nose with ripe blackberry confiture, florality and alluring smokiness. Large scaled and ripe, but at the same time, serious, long and definitely not candied, roasted or sweet. Surprisingly strong acidity. This is absolutely delicious now, but I suspect that it will go on for a very long time given its material and superb balance for this freakish vintage. I own no 2003 northern Rhone wines and was frankly astonished at the quality here given my preconceptions about the vintage.

A nice, well balanced and smooth wine- typical of aged top Northern Rhone ones - close to its drink by date.

Dark. Nice violet top note. Dense and tannic but not as nuanced or interesting as when tasted recently. Not stewed or overripe, though.
