St.Emilion Grand Cru Classée values tasting: Beautiful blue fruit both in the 2021 and 2020 shown today. I actually liked the 2021 for its elegance and balance. The 2020 had some darker, riper elements which made me worry a bit for late picking. Too early to tell, but definitely a lot of wine for the money here.

St. Emilion Grand Cru Classés Walkaround tasting, so just short notes (Amsterdam): In the blend of the 2020 is 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. In both the bouquet and on the palate beautifully dosed oak and cedar, beautifully ripe dark berries, good acidity and a good dose of round tannin. 94 – 96+

The dress is deep purple, with purplish reflections. Usual reflections on wines of such youth. On the nose the wine is deep and complex with notes of black fruits such as blackberry, blueberry, as well as fine floral and menthol notes. The attack on the palate is velvety and very delicate. The wine has an impressive aromatic intensity, with great finesse, precision and freshness. There is a perfect balance between round tannins and a very nice acidity. A lingering finish of immense elegance. To be enjoyed from 2026 until 2045.

Deeply colored, almost opaque in color, the wine opens with a blast of chocolate, black cherry liqueur, blueberries, licorice, espresso and licorice. But as good as the nose is, the palate is the star of the show. Corpulent, lush and polished, the wine coats your palate, yet, it manages to retain lift, balance and freshness, finishing with layers of opulent, perfectly ripe fruits that linger. You can enjoy this young, or age it for more complexity, Drink from 2024-2045.
