  • Prior bottle was only four months ago, but given how well it showed then, I didn't want to miss the window and was rewarded with another excellent bottle.

Soft, yet dark blackfruit notes on the nose (especially black cherry and plum) along with a nice mix of spice and mineral qualities, but not quite as aromatic as my bottle from July 2020. Between medium and full bodied with the same flavor profile as my prior bottle: black cherry and plum upfront and through the middle with some brighter blackberry highlights. Light spices towards the back along with fine grained, integrated tannins. The fruit continues to show quite well and overall, the wine shows impressive balance and depth. Drink over the next two years. Glad I had a chance to enjoy a wine of this varietal, of this age in such a particularly good drinking window.

  • Prior bottle was only two months ago, so my notes were unsurprisingly similar. Nose showed a combination of black cherry, minerals and deep dark plum. Seemed much bigger on the nose than my prior bottle. Between medium and full bodied with the same balanced blackfruit notes I found in my prior bottle (black cherry, plum and some blackberry highlights) . Tannins were fully integrated and just enough acidity remains to provide contrast to the depth of the fruit and provide a solid backbone. The fruit was very accessible and showed good depth, no fading. Won't improve with additional time so I'll save my final bottle for November 2020.

  • Blackberry, black cherry, light floral and touch of minerals on the nose. Between medium and full bodied (13.5% ABV) with elegant and polished black cherry and blackberry upfront. Mid-body shows good depth and is fully integrated so the fruit shows beautifully. There's a pretty streak of acidity underlying the fruit throughout which provides good contrast. Additional acidity on the backside provides just enough structure to create balance and structure. For a nearly 16 year old wine, this is holding up beautifully and will continue to do so as long as the acidity holds. Next bottle for me either June or July 2020.

  • Tasted at Prowine Asia 2018.
From magnum bottle. Pronounced sweet plush berry fruit and integrated oak. Concentrated but soft. Underlying minerality. No need for further ageing. Drink up and enjoy. A top Lagrein for sure.
