Elegant and burgundian, not really speaking of syrah, but with some black olive, blackberry and bay leaf. Aging well, for those who appreciate older wines.

Extraordianay, and took me by complete surprise. Incredible nose of smoked meat, pine needle, black tea, blackberries. Perfect over the palate, still years of life ahead.

Deep black color. Nose is soy and dark olives and charry meat. Sandalwood and cedar notes. Mature boysenberry. Silky entry with purple flowers and creamy but dense middle. Secondary aromas remind me of a mature Bordeaux. Finishes with refreshing tang and very good persistence. Hitting its stride now.

Bar Tartine with visiting Brad Kane (San Francisco): Smoky ripe dark fruits, burnt grain. Concentrated, slightly gritty ripely dark fruits, some savory bark/earth notes and minerality but some California sweetness comes through. Approaching maturity but still as a few years in it. Good, but to say this was shown up by the Faurie would be an understatement.

My Birthday (Palate Food + Wine): Subtle mocha, bramble, plum and pepper on the nose. Mouthfeel is round and balanced. A fully mature California expression of syrah with no fireworks, just exceptional class. Tremendous with our cheese plate.
