Mature Barolo Night (B&B Parkway): Poured into decanter and aired for 1 hour and drank over the next 1 hour. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby-garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, initially rather shy and reserved, showing only hints of roses, earth, stony minerality, and peeking red cherries later on. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), melt-in-your mouth medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of earth, stony minerality, bright red cherries, and a very nice sweet licorice finish. Long finish. Very good quality. Reflecting the elegance of the Cannubi terroir. Drink up and enjoy over the next 4-5 years. Day 2: Perfume, sour red cherries and still persistent sweet licorice finish.

Decanted for an hour and drank over the following hour. Consistent with previous notes. Purity of red fruit stands out. Tannins are very fine. Can perhaps develop further but this is close to or already at its peak. Still has a substantial amount of life left in it though.

Decanted for 3hrs. Initial funk on the nose dissipated after 2hrs or so. Nose retained a bit of dustiness but the floral aromas rose above it. This is a barolo of perfumed elegance rather than raw power. Tannins very fine and the wine has good tranparency/sense of place. Medium length finish. At peak now and would drink my remaining bottles within the next 3-5yrs.

1999 Barolo and Barbaresco: Right on Track (Via Emilia, 47 East 21st Street, Manhattan, NY): The ’99 Brezza Cannubi was a gorgeous Barolo with crushed red berries, roses, mineral dust, and tobacco on the nose. On the palate, it was elegant and finessed with ripe cherry fruit and minerals, which turned darker and more dramatic over time to reveal sweet balsamic notes. The finish showed red berries made tart by cheek-puckering tannin. This wine was youthful, with many years of development ahead of it.
