I do just love the wines from Stella di Campalto. In my mind there is no comparison for the Brunello made here, vintage after vintage they are in a league of their own. 2015 was a hot vintage, in this wine that heat is expressed through it's incredible intensity and the sweetness and ripeness of the fruit which reminds me of very old vintage port. There is leather and wild berries, and an array of florals and fresh herbs which takes you right to Tuscany. What really sets this apart, however, is that it is ethereal - weightlessness and intense power which are in absolute harmony. This finesse is only found in the very best wines in my experience. Brava, Stella

Wine dinner with 2017 Soldera vs 2015 Stella. Tight and equilibristic battle of two Brunello gems. Soldera was decanted for ~1,5 hour before first tasting. Stella delivered immediately in Zalto Burgundy glass. Soldera showed up more tight and in some sense austere style with long potential, while Stella was fully open, fragrant and constantly evolving during the evening (~3 hours). Side by side they revealed masculine and feminine aspects of Sangiovese. Both are great wines with my judgment in favour of Stella for absolutely ethereal structure and totally seductive bouquet.

Another glass about 48 hours after the wine was initially opened. This was the last wine we tried on Sunday, and to be honest, as the 13th wine in a tasting, it really didn't get the attention it deserved.
That said, I have the same reaction today that I did on Sunday - by Sangiovese standards, this is a big wine. Ripe, in your face fruit; 2015 was a hot vintage, and off this bottle, it shows in the wine.
That said, still quite young, so with time this might settle down.

Got the balance of this vintage right.
But way overpriced for what it is.
