Pleasant blind tasting revelation to see this Chianti Riserva still in a good spot at 18 years of age. Yes its rustic and dusted, probably was better few years ago, but still enjoyable now. Medium red colour. Medium intensity rustic aroma of still bright fruits, such as cherries, raspberries and plums, earthy and gamey hints, scent of smokiness and coffee. Medium body, tart earthy cherries on the palate followed by lively acidity, saline hints and chewy sandy tannins.

Pop and pour. On the border of red and dark fruit - still a LOT of fruit here. Plums, blackberries, old leather, dirt/earth. Full bodied, tannins are still there. Drink now! Probably was a bit better four or so years ago but still nice.

- Garnet color and aromas of cherry, raspberry and rose. It's balanced and has flavours of cherry with a medium body. Smooth texture with a medium finish - Very elegant, nice bricking on the rim, Probably hitting its prime right now

(Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva Badia a Passignano) This classic riserva is primarily Sangiovese, produced from the best clones of old Tignanello vines, with a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. It is aged mainly in new, 300- and 225-liter Hungarian oak barriques, plus a small portion in new, 225-liter French barriques. The wine has aromas of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, cedar, and cherry. The palate is medium- bodied, with tar and sour-cherry notes. Dusty oak tannins, refreshing acidity, and a long, tarry finish add up to a wine of great finesse. Special Report: Chianti Classico

It has finally reached its prime. Earthy and full bodied with underlying sweet berry and a soft warm finish. It is fantastic. Drink up.
