Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • This one's a tough call. I think PX is a really interesting variety as a table wine - just starting to appear in various places with real character and strength as a "dry" grape. Terra de Cuques is definitely distinctive. Instantly odd in appearance - almost like an orange wine. Very bronzed and almost dark green at certain angles. On the nose like a palo cortado but drier. Other notes of nuts and mountain herbs. It's quite a bitter, oxidised style; one that will alienate people looking for something easier. But beneath it there is densely concentrated fruit and an undeniable richness. It's long, succulent and very savoury. Thick and unctuous. But in no way sweet, and the acidity is a bit poor, so it has a slightly floppy structure. Plenty of interest and distinctiveness, but somewhat challenging. Having said that, we polished it off in 20 minutes, haha!
