  • A point at the moment, so refined, such immaculate balance. This has subtle aged Sauvignon character, but the effect is more of a totally complete and complex wine. Huge layered palate, refined acids, a mature
Wine that will continue to develop in a fascinating manner for years.

  • Six 2019 Sancerres from Pinard and Vacheron (San Francisco): Floral, quite fragrant, great ripe fruit on the nose. Medium weight, polished, smooth fee. Great texture with some varietal notes, but the strong oak vanilla flavor takes away from the fruit. This obviously has terrific material, but I wonder if the wood will ever recede enough for the fruit to shine through. Not my style-a Sancerre trying to be a Grand Cru Burgundy.

  • Light yellow. Beautifully layered ripe citrus fruit with a marvelous texture, yet not feeling as though the wood is any way overdone.

  • Easily one of my favourite single vineyards from Vacheron, this is muscular, deep and structured. With aromas of ripe stone fruit, gooseberry, lime peel, fennel, crushed rocks, wild spring herbs and a little smoky. The palate is chiseled and muscular, with notes of ripe nectarines, citrus, savoury notes and wet stone, the mid-palate is incredibly structured, stony and tense, with refreshing acidity and a long savoury finish. Wow!

  • Superb Sancerre that convinces on its balance. Not a vibrant example of the terroir, but the lees aspects add significant complexity and promote a suave mouthfeel that is not dissimilar to high end Burgundies. The herbaciousness of the sauvignon is certainly apparent, but is ripe and is only a part of the effect on the palate. Beautifully modulated finish, with what appears to be a significant ability to develop with age in the cellar. 93+
