Very dark, sweet tar, black olive and black pepper. Unbelievably rich and concentrated yet extremely supple in texture. Long long finish with a sweet echo. Truly lovely

1995 was the first vintage and it was the first wine for Torbreck. 2005 was the first vintage of Laird (single vineyard). RunRig System=pre-Romas Scots. The Clan controls and designates where the best place to raise what is, and it’s all communally shared.
A Crofter is someone who makes it just for themselves.
6 vineyards in RunRig. 4 Estate Sites, plus two growers (Marcus Schulz is one) and they get their grapes via sweat equity.
Deep, dark, dense and chewy. More dark and black fruit oriented with a minor eucalyptus nuance to the nose. 98% Shiraz w/ a dosage of 2% Viognier (from Descendent Vineyard). Not co-fermented. 30m French oak, 50% new, 50% second fill and the barrels aren’t topped up. 1901 plantings are the oldest going into RunRig.

Samples from Bill #8: Redcurrant, graphite, plum and cherry, with some meaty notes as well. Palate is quite floral with red fruits and good length. Plenty of flavour and lift to it. More restraint than I might have expected though it is full and plush as well.

Too young? 4 hr decant and this wine was off to the races, a little spicy… a little smooth finish… a little menthol… and a lot delicious. Perfect with our Korean BBQ short ribs.
Can’t wait to have this again. Really special.

Hedonistic fruit bomb. Needs 5 years as a minimum to become well manered. This wine will please everybody other than old world purists.
