This wine surprised to the upside, and I think it has a much longer life ahead of it than a lot of the other reviewers suggest. Showing a slightly darker than average (for a Barolo) crimson with minimal bricking, the initial notes are mint, roses and some charred wood elements. Fruit is present but lurking in the background. Tannins are extremely present, but in a very nice integrated way. Even an hour decant didn't take the edge off the pleasant tannins. After a couple of hours you get some non-earthy elements of burnt caramel to finish it off. The bottle I had definitely had room to age, at least 5yr and I'd say 10 easily. PS - Interesting to read the notes of JWG to see how this bottle has evolved over many years. Thanks for the posts!

Flavorful with medium finish, some oak and tannin. Surprisingly, still some thing left to this wine but time to drink
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. The body is medium. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Quite a lot has happened since Sep -17! Colour is now brick red/brown w pale edge. Bq w tar, oak, woodland, spice, dried fruit. Tannins have softened, acidity good, fruit is still there (mostly dried fruit). Wine is better balanced today, but there is no doubt that it will soon be over the hill.

Identical to our August bottle (see notes). Such a wonderful vintage.
