  • Rustic backward style of Italian wine. Musky dusty with chicken fowl feathers. Rustic with dirty mushrooms and old cupboard cherries. Good ole traditional stuff.

  • Post "Wicked" Pizza Dinner (Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore): I thought this was really nice. I loved the classic Chianti nose here, with dusty earth and leather, slightly horsey, barnyardy notes and a lovely bit of dusky dark cherries and black berries. With time, the savoury, slightly Bretty notes receded slightly to show scents of dried flowers and spice in the background. Lovely, masculine stuff. The palate was really fresh for a 1997, without the heavy, roasted fruits that you sometimes get from the vintage. Instead, there were juicy gobs of dark cherries, black plums and blackberries touched with fine tannins at the midpalate and bits of spice and savoury meat, leather and mushrooms and a damp woody linger towards the slightly shortish finish. Very nice apart from the lack of length. As would be expected, this went great with pizza. A really nice wine at a very nice place now.

  • This is truly beautiful. The nose is layered and subtle, with truffles, figs, cherries. The palate is just as interesting with layers of dried fruits, tobacco, leather. The tanins on the finish are elegant and rounded out with good acidity. The finish is only medium-long but that's just nit-picking.

  • Plat et sans l'âme d'un "vieux" vin. Perd tranquilement sa couleur mais les arômes complexes expérérés n'y étaient pas. Décevant. Noté 5e sur 5 vins lors de la verticale par le groupe de 8 dégustateurs.

  • Nose of prunes and black olives, with a fair amount of dried figs and cedar box. On the palate, the initial dark prune gives way to leather and tar and a fairly long finish on wood. A nice acidity balances the still rather firm tannins. A beautiful wine that gains from just a few minutes in a decanter. Very food friendly.
