  • I like this wine a lot. Rich (for a nebbiolo), dark in both color and character, beautiful although subdued nose, prominent but mature and pleasant tannins.

Opened 30 minuets before consumption. Partially decanted. Consumed between 59 and 63 degrees (F). Consumed with Bolognese/pasta, and then on its own. Remainder stored overnight cold and vacuumed.

This is clearly a baby Barolo, of the darker more serious variety.

Color is dark, but not opaque. Translucent and brownish at the rim. Excellent legs.

Nose includes the trademark roses and earth, but less of the floral character than some of the lighter styles. Fairly complex too. Not "hot". Just nice.

The palate is very pleasing. While it has tannin and acidity for structure (and likely long ageing potential) nothing is green or immature and its very pleasant. The body, while Nebbiolo-ish is a little richer and the fruit darker (a common style, nothing new here). IMO very elegant and great with food.

    Fairly long length.

Another terrific value in the big picture, if you like lighter, more complex and elegant wines. Cali cab or Zin fans need not apply.

Just in contrast this totally embarrassed the Castello de verduno i had open next to it. While the verduno was the lighter more floral and supposedly elegant style it just seemed thin and acrid by contrast.
