Deep ruby color. Med plus aromas of black cherry, red plum, black berry, blueberry, cedar, toast, violet, leather, some VA, and a bit of orange peel and coffee. Really good balance of fruits, floral notes and earthiness. Fruits are just ripe. Though color is young there’s some tertiary notes. Dry, med plus body, high acid, grainy, med(+) tannins, long finish. Good now but think it has a space for improvement over time. Thought a darker Pinot but this is Bierzo Tinto. Maybe grainy, slightly stalky tannin quality is the key - not really common for PN, but this might be just the producer’s style due to high whole cluster percentage. This got less interesting over time in a glass losing fresh fruits and gaining stemmy spiciness. There is a bit of bitterness on the palate probably from the stem. Fantastic value. 90+

Really easy to drink: fresh, juicy and elegant. Barnyard with berries and cherry. Lacking a bit in body and acidity, but a pleasure nonetheless. Good QPR

Amazing QPR here! Such an elegant wine with so much to unpack. The nose is fresh with Strawberry, raspberry and pomegranate. The palate is almost crunchy with sour cherries, strawberries, pomegranate again, violets, spice and a touch of barnyard funk. Mencia isn't something I drink often but it is a very interesting grape with a lot of complexity and so far I don't think anybody does it better than Raul Pérez. I've tried most of what he makes and so far none have been disappointing. So for 25$ this is great!

Very heavy on the barnyard when opened... Air reduced the impact to balance it out, overall good after the time open.
