  • Obviously developing. Expressive nose, flowers, black, blue, fruits. Unbalanced at the moment, high alcohol, good finish. Needs many years ahead, I am not going to open again such a fresh wine.

  • Popped and poured; no formal notes. The 2021 Burlotto Barbera d’Alba “Aves” is developing; redolent of impossibly dark berry fruits with some purple flowers and earthy clay-like minerals. Medium tannin and medium+ acid. High alcohol. The finish is long and has a bit of a salmiakki thing on the finish that’s really nice. This is a really good wine right now but it’s undeniably primary and I think it’s holding something back. I won’t touch another bottle for at least a few years. Drink now with patience and through 2036.

  • This is one of my favorite vintages for this wine as I feel the variety has more of a voice than I typically find. Like CCT, I find the base Barbera (year in and out) to my liking/preference. This has some more substance, one could say, but it's not any sense of oak (overt or otherwise) that gets it there - which is a big win for me. CCT's note is dead on, and yes, this is likely to improve from here as it clearly has the material. At around $33, it's recommended; better to HOLD for a couple of years.

  • Dark crushed velvet. Dripping ripe fruit salads and warm earth on the first nose. More exotic spices after a good swirl. Fiull rich and very deep palate. Wild blackberries and lots of very smooth tannins. Cloves, nutmeg and candied cherries. Tremendous finish many minutes long. Guessing this will improve and harmonize further with some more age.

  • Tasting with Fabio

Deeper berry fruit than the regular bottling, more intense, with violets, tar and spice. Fuller and rounder but by no means heavy on the plate, this is just a more intense play on Barbera, but where this one succeeds is in keeping it fresh and in balance. Expansive yet not heavy, like a distillation of beautiful barbera fruit. More concentrated than the regular bottling and more impressive, but I prefer the regular barbers style. If you like a terrifically balanced fuller barbera, this is great, and I still really love it. Different but not better than the regular barbera, but after a few years of bottle age, this one may overtake the other. Well done
