95 Burgundy (La Trompette, London): Paler, more of a garnet. Quite floaty and fragrant. Lighter with soft spice. Good acidity and a bit of gentle decay. Easy going but none the worse for that. ***

Nice bottle. Feminine, elegant in a restrained style. Earthy with fraise des bois and blackberry notes. On the light side, typical aged burgundy flavored of sous bois, slightly smoky. Nice wine.

Unfortunately this was slightly corked, at least enough to distract me and prevent me from enjoying the wine. But even with the TCA taint, it felt like the wine was falling apart, no real structure nor stamina and past its prime. This might be that particular bottle and we'll see how the others are.

Big Burg Weekend - Mortet, Grivot, Dauvissat etc and some Clarets for the unbelievers; 3/11/2005-3/13/2005 (My dining room): I’m consistently amazed by the Savigny’s of Bize and Pavelot, is there a better bargain in red Burgundy? Bize’s Verglesses and Pavelot Dominode are consistently knocking on the qualitative door of many more illustrious terroirs and they age like a dream. This, from a 375, was singing. Silky as you like, lots of trebly red fruit, great freshness with some lovely stink, it slips down easy yet remains on the palate and mind long after the bottle was drained and what a QPR.
