Mystery box tasting (Oinoscent): Clear medium purple. The nose is clean, medium intensity, red cherry, vanilla, bubblegum?, red berry, a strange peachy note, developing. The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, medium alcohol and acidity, medium tannins with a small drying effect, thin concentration in the midpalate, dilluted, red cherry and berry, a thin oak layer in the med-/med finish. Good quality, med/high price, drink now. I was sadly surprised when the wine's identity was unveiled.

On the nose black berries, dark cherries, sweet spice. Smooth tannins and full body, very well balanced with a slightly sweet medium finish. Ready to drink.

(Alpha Estate Vertical in Pathos & Oinos) Decanted for 3 hours. Deep ruby color. Sweet dense nose, candied grape, overripe blackberry, sweet spices, intriguing nose. Strangely sweet, intense tannins, liquorice, ripe fruits, leather, long aftertaste. Definately for another 5 years and then we'll see.

Unlike the previous bottle, this was very expressive. It seems like the wine has passed its awkward phase. Very dark ruby-purple. Initially the nose was reductive. It took almost 2 hours in the dercanter for the funky aromas to fade completely. Right after this the wine was reminiscent of a Northern Rhone (Cornas?) with a very interesting and complex bouquet of blackberries, dark cherries, meaty and gamey notes. This phase was the most interesting, since after further aeration the fruit became too jammy and sweet and the wine was closer to a Chilean syrah than to the Northern Rhone. The palate followed closely the development of the nose, becoming gradually fuller, sweeter, denser and fatter with gradually softening tanins and balancing acidity. Medium finish. A very interesting wine, though I have to agree with AndrewSGHall that it lacks "Greek" character. Probably at its peak. 89-90.

This bottle was quite different to those previously tasted. Very closed aromatically, with only some aldehyde indicating light oxidation initially, that faded after some time, to leave the wine almost odourless. I recorked the bottle with most of the content and will come back tomorrow...No score (for the time being...)
