Rolled the dice on a mid/high shoulder bottle of this wine, and I got about what I anticipated.
Good nose of blackberries, earth and leather, but no Pauillac character. Palate showed good amount of black fruit and mineral, but thinning and lacking some freshness at this point. Green pepper and some cran-chocolate notes in the finish.

Monthly Tasting Group EEE #036; Bordeaux left bank (@ PV): In the bouquet tea, cold coffee, earth, autumn forest, graphite and some faint cassis flavors. On the palate still some fruits like plums and rose hips, coffee, cinnamon, ok acidity and bitterness as well as melted a bit drying and old tannin. Tertiary and very mature, but surprisingly still drinkable. It was definitely much better 20 years ago. No score for tonight.

On first whiff I got so much pencil lead/graphite – typical Pauillac. Balanced dark fruits and acidity made this a fine if not outstanding old Bordeaux.
