En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux): From Magnum. A touch of Autumn fruit, black fruits, cream, sweet spice brambly and leathery notes, umami and a touch of cellar stink, meaty, sous bois. Acidity tends to the medium plus intensity, umami, leather, a little brambly note. Nice

Strong cigar box, leather, aged blackberry, strawberry, and plum; smooth but unstable, wobbly; some fruit remaining but mostly on the decline, though still drinkable and even somewhat enjoyable

Followed for 5 hours, the nose on the ‘83 Haut Bages Liberal never really shows up. The palate has more appeal with dark fruit, a hint of mint, and unsmoked cigar, but overall it comes across as slightly heavy and loamy without the dazzle of which 83 Pauillac is capable.

Smoky, earthy and gravelly on the nose, interesting and nuanced with fine tobacco and cigar box accents, if not at all fruit driven. In the mouth there is a slightly different story. With a touch of tannin still lending backbone, this is mostly driven by acids today but retains a comfortable padding of fruit, delicate, plummy, earthy and turning redder with acid towards the back of the palate. there's nothing remarkable here, except for the pleasure and condition this throw away bottle is providing. It’s balanced with a softness only age can provide, yet retains the mineral grab of the tannins of the vintage. Lovely tobacco laced red berry flavors linger on the palate, well balanced, unobtrusive, stately, and satisfying.
