  • Bouteille et bouchon en parfaite condition. High fill (0.5 cm).

  • New Year's Eve: WineSpectator.com Offline, San Diego (San Diego): Decanted 30 minutes before tasting. Clear medium ruby color. Seductive, sweet perfume of dried strawberries, raspberries, incense and potpourri. Just enough gaminess or clean barnyard to show it's real Burgundy. Complex, assertive but weightless on the palate. This is why "everyone ends up in Burgundy." Truly fabulous. My #1 and group's THIRD PLACE tonight.

  • I was easily captivated by white Burgundy but I've never been wowed by Red Burgundy but this now has my attention after trying this which was generously provided by JuliannaD.

Faded deep brick red all the way through; Subtle funk and sweat (think a cute blonde after a workout vs. your old gym socks), earth and coffee aromas; sharp and tangy cherry, spices/cinnamon, and orange flavors. Layered, luscious, and delicious.

  • Acquired recently from a cold cellar, I opened this at the recommendation of Mitch Hersh, who felt it might be close to over the hill, if not already there. Fortunately, it was still showing quite well. Definitely some bricking showing, but still relatively opaque for a 16 year old wine. The nose shines, with raspberries, soil, minerals, coffee, and chocolate. A relatively high acid wine with good structure on the palate. The finish is medium. In my very limited experience with Burgundy, this is one of the better ones I've had. Enjoyed with mushroom-crusted halibut with black truffle sauce.
