Wow, still drinking fabulously! Robert Parker extended the drink dates out to 2028, but I was convinced I shouldn’t wait that long. I have another bottle left and won’t rush into drinking it, although I would say that I don’t think it will improve at all. It’s drinking perfect right now, so drink up! But it will still be good for a few more years. Fabulous wine with loads of ripe fruit, soft integrated tannins and a long finish.

Drinking beautifully right now, but showing no signs of slowing down. Great flight of 1982 Leoville Las Cases and 1996 Harlan (1.5L). Runaway favorite for the freshness, depth and finish. The next course featured some high powered CA wines from the 2009 vintage, and you could've easily mistaken the 2001 for a 2009. A classic in my opinion. Beautiful restraint combined with unbridled power. Such a fun wine to explore.
(Consistent notes from 2 bottles one day apart.)

MARSTON FAMILY VINEYARDS BROKEN VERTICAL: In comparison to the 2 previous vintages the oak is much more present in this wine. Lovely dark fruit with a spicy oak driven liquor like finish. The mouth feel is very seductive and enjoyable without much heat.

Pretty, dark red in color. Classic, mountain fruit aromas in the deep blackberry nose with oak, pepper, spice and saltwater. Caressing and smooth on the palate and finishes moderately long with smooth, chalky tannins. Good to drink now with a 1-2 hour decant.

What a tannic beast! I did not give this wine a chance. Even after 3 hours of being in a glass, it was still too tightly wound for consumption.
