  Well, there’s a lot going on here. The gold color hints that there might be some age. The nose had a little bit of cat piss so I was charging down the Sauvignon Blanc road. But there was a very present oily petroleum note which flipped everything upside down. This saw no new oak but there’s clearly something like that happening at the finish, plus dried moss. Excellent wine.

Bravo!....retasting the following day, man this is fresh and bright. There is a sour melon kind of thing in the wine that gives it character but it doesn't turn me off. In fact, I like that it's here because it lengthens the finish. Just so much freshness...!

  From magnum, slow ox'ed for a couple of hours before service. An outstanding wine with lots of citrus and minerality. Goes extremely well with shellfish like crab cakes, scallops, etc.

  Hanging on well.
  
  Definitely a touch of nuttiness, but less oxidized than one would think. Probably about as good as it’s going to get. Won’t wait on the other magnum.

  From magnum. The wine was popped and poured, but then tasted over the course of two hours. This wine is really outstanding and interesting once it's been exposed to air for about an hour.
  
  Upon opening, the wine had a big floral nose, but with no acidity showing at all. The flavors were dominated by minerals.
  
  After about an hour, the wine went through a major change. Boom, the acidity was there. The floral nose just kept on giving. The flavors of minerality was still there in force, but joined by nice fruit flavors including tart citrus and apple.
  
  Overall, an excellent wine with plenty of life, at least in this format. Give it plenty of air for maximum enjoyment.
  
  Here's the information I received about the wine from Chris Paul, the Tasting Room Manager at Copain: "It’s 100% neutral oak aged. There’s a few hours of skin contact prior to pressing for fermentation. 2006 was a cooler year down in Paso Robles. 2009 was our final vintage with James Berry."
