Thanksgiving dinner, I preferred this to an '11 Donjon CdP. The big, fruity, herbal merlot brought out the savory flavors of the Herb de Provence rub on the turkey, the sweet smokiness of the sweet potatoes with roasted pecans and the balsamic/honey dressing on the brussels sprouts. Earth and balsamic aromas. Full bodied with black cherry, dried herbs, strong tannins.

Decanted at 1862. Hot, vanilla, juicy red fruit, milk chocolate, mineral and tannin. Happy in its drinking window, consistent with my previous notes, also my last bottle.

Opened to breathe for 3h. Lots of oak, cordials and hot candy spices on the nose. The palate is a burst of juicy sweet red cherries and fruit, cut back by oak, leather, chocolate, alcohol, and some tannins. This hits me as sweet as opposed to fruity after spending lots of time with Old World wines over the past two weeks. Not sure if it is sweet, or very fruity and juicy. It is well made, balanced and complex but the CA character here is unmistakable. This has the stuffing to go at least 3-5 more years no problem.
Pumped down over night. On Day 2 just as juicy fragrant and well balanced.

Delicious dark blue fruit intermingled with spice and cedar notes. I absolutely love Seavey merlots.
