  Medium golden colour. Aromatic and perfumed but not excessively. Typical Condrieu aromas like apricot, honey, soap, blossoms and sweet butter. Also a very clean and focused lemony note. Still fresh. In the palate it is even more intense with hints of minerals, rose petals on a supple almost oily background of ripe apricot flavours. Elegant, powerful with varietal typicity, balanced, long and with aromatic intensity which is high but not as high as to make it unsuitable for matching with food. Remarkable wine, elegant with finesse and power. Only alcohol is a little hot.

  Dinner with colleagues (@ JP): I did not make notes, but this is a very good viognier. Never would have guessed this comes from Greece.

  2007 Domaine Gerovassiliou Viognier (Griekenland, Macedonië, Epanomi) Kleur: Strogeel Aroma / bouquet: Aantrekkelijk, zelfs verleidelijk, aroma. Zwoel fruit, variërend van rijpere maar voldoende frisse citrustonen, het voor Viognier kenmerkende steenfruit (abrikoos) tot tropische fruitgeuren (net niet rijpe ananas). Ook floraal / bloesem-achtig. Verder een hint van versgebakken stokbrood / gist. Smaak / Afdronk: Voldoende fris zuur, tegelijkertijd een filmende en ronde indruk. Veel concentratie, dik-sappig en een meer dan gemiddelde lengte. Algemeen / potentieel: Zoals je niet elke Chardonnay moet willen afzetten tegen de allermooiste Meursaults of Puligny- / Chassagne-Montrachets, moet je elke Viognier ook niet willen afzetten tegen de allermooiste Condrieus. Maar: Eén ding is zeker, dit is een verdomd mooie Viognier die wat mij betreft in alle opzichten on-Grieks is. Heerlijke wijn en absoluut een top-Viognier uit Griekenland! 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Smaak / Afdronk: 15 + Algemeen / potentieel: 7 = 88/100
