  • Clay Mauritson has made a very nice bordeaux blend. Dark garnet to inky in color, the aromas and flavors are maturing nicely… classic cab markers. The stark tannins have mellowed into silky smoothness, yet still maintain enough strength to guarantee further aging. What's not to like?

  • This product is produced by Mauritson Vineyards under the Rockpile label. I tasted it at the tasting room and was fairly impressed. Now two years later it seems average. Decanted for over an hour. The blend is 60% Cabernet, 20% Petit Verdot, 10% Malbec, and 10% Cabernet Franc, Initial nose shows a smoky, very rustic character. Flavors of cherry and red fruit on the palate with a very firm tannic structure. Finish is medium. Enjoyed the wine with a Ribeye steak which definitely seemed to improve the wine....it definitely needs food!

(Mauritson Rockpile Buck Pasture Red Wine) One of Mauritson’s single-block bottlings, sourced from the Gloeckner Turner Ranch, this is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 15% Malbec, and 10% Petit Verdot. The deep purple-ruby color is followed by a beautifully bright, focused, multifaceted nose of sweet cassis, smoky tobacco leaf, and fraises des bois. On the palate, the wine is thick, full, buoyant, elegant, and seamlessly fruit-focused; the berry-liqueur flavors finish with smoky-tobacco and roasted-coffee richness. As fine and deep a Bordeaux blend as any from the West Coast. Appellation: Rockpile
