  • Delicious cherries, spice, earth. Shockingly bright and structured for a 20 year old wine. Plenty of life, clearly can go for many more years.

  • Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined and refrigerated), note from day 2. Appearance: Pale garnet with noticeable bricking and a bit of sediment. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with still developing aromas of bright cherry, rose, dark earth, tar, and spice. Palate: Dry, high acid and tannin - though the tannins feel soft after 17 years, medium- body, medium+ intensity, the rather high 14.5% abv was hardly noticeable, showing developing flavors of cherry, raspberry, tobacco, and leather with a long finish.

Overall an outstanding inexpensive Barolo from the noteworthy 2004 vintage showing well across the board - balance, intensity, complexity, and length. This showed better on day 2 implying a wine that hasn't peaked quite yet. Can drink now or over next 3-5 years.

  • Middels dyp, utviklet farge, svakt murstensfarget kant.

  • Very nice nebbiolo - drink now. Maybe a bit "flat", not much fruit left, medium tanninsEnjoyed it with pork steaks.

(SCHIAVENZA Barolo) Barolo Dear Friends, I finished the last sip of this power-packed beverage last night and it is an absolute steal for the price. I hope most of you can overlook the point score below and concentrate on the plus sign (+) as the wine has ventured down a very fine path since it was released. 2004 was a grand vintage in Barolo and this wine shows all the hallmarks of a top growing season. It is intense and authoritative yet deceptively feminine and graceful in its expression of rosewater, tar and penetrating notes of menthol and balsam. The tannins are ripe and rich which bode very well for many years in the cellar. At $36+, this is a top-level Barolo that can compete with single vineyard examples at twice the price: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a price/value star among the 2004's ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price: 2004 Schiavenza Barolo (Barolo) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy2378
