Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Clear, dark, red-brown color in glass. Some thinning out at the rim. Aromas of mushroom, forest floor, roasted meat, and leaves. On the palate, there is a hint of cherry, but the dominant flavors are leafy tobacco, meat, and forest floor. The finish is dominated by barrel tannins. Time in the glass and some food help to bring some sense of balance to this wine, but its best days are long past. For the fan of old wines, this may have the tannins to make old bones and be an interesting study in dried herbs, tea, and tobacco. More cerebral than hedonistic at this point. With the right cuisine, drink up. Otherwise, cook with it or save it for a vertical or an old wine experience in 10-12 more years.
