Champagne and Pinot Noir WIMPS #168 31st August 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): A melange of sweet red fruits and tarter lingonberries on the nose. Later a little Bakewell sweetness too. The palate is harder to work out; doesn't quite get going. I'm not sure if a sub-par bottle or just in need of a proper multi-hour decant but not quite what it should be on the day.

The End of the Golden Weather: a pre-COVID-19 Visit to Central Otago in Autumn 2020: I served the two Fourriers as a pair double blind. Typical warmer 2007, more Gevrey-specific and more “Fourrier-like”. A complex, funky, musky and earthy bouquet with lifted spices and florals. I preferred the complexity while some of the winemakers worried about "grubbiness". Some also saw the wine as more “New World” rather than as classic Burgundy. Red cherries and raspberries with some preserved red and black fruit, tobacco, soil, spices and dry brush. Nicely evolved and rounded. Detailed and lovely. Again, at its best, I'd expect, over the next few years.

Very Fourrier on the nose, though darker than typical (not unexpected of the Combe au Moine), but the palate is extremely young despite hours in the decanter. The tannins are still prominent and the finish still feels almost partially integrated due to the tannins and the acidity not being entirely in harmony. It's a tasty wine, but drinking extremely young right now. To the back of the cellar this goes.

PnP. ABV 13.5%. Flowers and dark soils on the nose, fairly expressive. A very reliable and consistent wine since the 1st bottle few years ago. Bright acidity and a tad lean, fine tannins, oaks were fully integrated. Finished with slight bitter notes. No trace of alcohol. Spices lingering at finish, very nice. With air, this continued to put on weight and rounder mouthfeel. Just like most of ‘07 Red Burgs, wide-open and delicious.

Extensive Social Distancing Drink #4. The last bottle was like 2 years ago, time to open this reliable wine again. Flowers, oaks, and spices on the nose. Seems more lean and less showy vs previous bottle, but still drinking well. Some fine tannins still hanging around but definitely ready. Good balance with no hint of alcohol. Continued to put on weight in the glass. Strong old barrels and spices finish, very nice.
