  • The biggest disappointment of the year. Supposed to have been recorked a few years ago at the Domaine and kept in a cellar at the Wine Society since. Well past it’s best. Nice brick coloured rim but tasted of sherry. Also had the sauerkraut aftertaste I dislike in some red wines. GBP70

  • At a CNP tasting of wines at least 20+ years old. Old CNPs can be drinkable, but I believe they go in and out of drinking windows, and generally do not think they show well in Summer. Hence the December tasting. Bowl was amber in the center, brick orange around it, and caramel at the rim. Wide clear rim around it. Nose was very muted. Dried plums heading towards prunes, plenty of cedar and a touch of barnyard that blew off after awhile. In the mouth, the wine had begun to dry out, was dusty, some dried blueberry therein and the ever-present cedar. The finish started ok but then ended astringently. With cedar-grilled salmon or the like, this wine would still work. Time to face the music and drink or keep it as a souvenir. Still, 45 years and still alive is impressive.
