Color: medium garnet Nose: evolves with air, from light violet petal and tar to forest floor to finally some sour cherry coming out. What stays throughout is the anise. It presents some charming transient notes like tarocco blood orange peel, castelmagno rind, dill, rock candy Palate: very, very refined. Full integration of the tannins and enough acidity to still be a food wine. Medium-full body. But very very elegant and understated. If anything it does oak a hint of complexity Finish: medium-long
Mature barolo always always always a treat. I get zero oak influence here, and just a classic elegance - a wine that doesn't go unnoticed but also doesn't pound the table like some of its close relatives. Drinks well now, i think it has gas in the tank for a decade or so. I decanted 30 mins and then had it over 2 hours, best at the end so I could have waited (the pasta Al sugo d'arrosto was ready though...)

Cherry and tar flavors with some tartness. Pleasurable and nice-tasting. Should open up over 24 hours with more fruit extraction. Yes, 24 hours helps. Tannins are light to moderate. Second bottle. Richer, meatier and more layered than my first experience. Drinking well, and this wine can certainly go for another five or eight years.

Served w/ porchetta, marscapone mashers & asparagus. Classic Barolo aromas and flavors and this vintage did not disappoint. Started out very tight and austere, but then opened beautifully and really hit its stride w/ about 1.5 hrs of air.

Montreal Offline: Piedmonte (Restaurant La Forchetta): Medium ruby red. Nice nose of fresh ripe fruits. Nice palate of fruits and a nice balance of tannins and acidity. Medium length finish. Paired very well with the lamb shanks.

No formal note. A bit less complexity than expected, but overall a good mature Barolo from a sub zone I was unfamiliar with.
Drink or hold to 2025.
