Ruby red, and aromas of bramble, cassis, cherries and plums. Also hints of nuts and spices. The soft mouthfeel fills in the full body and medium + tannins. Medium acidity and a long finish bring this great port in balance.

Tasted at Caviste, UK, at their Old Port & Madeira Tasting. Hosted by Caviste owner Mark Bedford and presented by port and madeira expert Bartholomew Broadbent. Third port tasted during the evening and my first opportunity to taste a 1927 port. Drunk in honour of Bartholomew's father Michael Broadbent who had celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this week. Appearance is still fresh, quite clear. A beautiful fresh nose. Taste shows peppery spice, with a hint of brandy reflecting the age of the wine. A splendid opportunity to taste a 90 year old port.

An Affair to Remember: 1851-1994 (Sammamish, Washington): This was bottled by Whitwhams. Slightly dusty amber in color with some cloudiness. This bottle is corked. The nose if very off-putting. There are some spicy notes, but it all seems oxidized and disjointed. The palate has some metallic notes, and there really wasn’t much fruit remaining. Overall, this one was rather disappointing.
