No formal notes as the wine was clearly past its drinking window and in some way oxidaited spoiling the beautiful tertiary notes that the Poliziano develops in time.
Only bottle so I couldn't double check. a pity.

Colour: Garnet with very little sediment. Aromas : Dark berry and dried berried fruits, black cherries, dusty earthiness. Spices, licorice, tea to close out with a long finsh. Flavours: Follow the aromas. Mouthfeel: Drying ripe sweet tannins. Medium weight. Overall: Drinking very nicely , smooth, complex.

This is a very odd wine. I bought it in 2008 because I was impressed by its muscularity, but it really hasn't emerged from a stubborn adolescence. It was unforthcoming last night, but today at lunch it is showing nice tertiary character. What is the point of that? Who opens wine 24 hours ahead of drinking it (in 2021)....? It will last, and I will duly drink the remaining bottles 24 hours after pulling the cork, but it is all rather hard work for a wine of this price (£30 a bottle in 2008). I assume that this is a vintage characteristic, and indeed 2006 does seem to have been a very hard vintage in many parts of Europe. It gets 90 for the late appeal, but if you drink it soon after taking the cork out it would score way way less.... (I would be very interested to hear comments)

I am staying at 91 even though the wine has actually improved further from my last bottle in 2017 - everything in the wine is more balanced - it is still cherries and blackberries - also chocolate, coffee and some tobacco - medium tannins and acidity - but I still fell that 91 is a fair rating.
