Probably did this wine a dis-service by drinking after the stellar 2002 Woodenhead Russian River. Technically, this wine, like all Cuvaison wines, is superior. But compared to the Woodenhead, this wine was thin and lacking flavour. I know this assessment is not typical for pinot noirs from Carneros. Next time this wine will be the center of attention.

Garnet with fuchsia rim. Earthy nose with spicy aromas of strawberries, cherries, and a touch of barnyard. Earthy, herbal, almost burly palate. Flavors of red berry fruit, plum, spice box, cedar, conifer, fresh grass, and a backnote of granite-like minerality continues through the medium finish. Adequate acidity complements the fruit, which is deceptively big, mouth coating, and hovers above the earthy elements. Not a wine for the masses but very good if you like this style of wine.

This is terrible. Just a mess of a wine with a foul finish. The worst pinot I have had in years.
