Similar to previous experience except that am noticing presence of tannins a bit more, while at the same time lamenting the lack of acidity even more. Decent nose and rich mid palate, but comes across as heavy and a bit dull in the finish.

Very ripe wine. Nose of blackberries. tar and kirsch. Very rich mid palate. Roundish finish, which would benefit from a bit more structure, either from tannins or acidity, but preferably acidity.

A private dinner (Restaurant Köhlerstube, Hotel Traube Tonbach, Baiersbronn, Germany): A very ambitious, modern and extracted wine, big and black, concentrated, rich, fiercely tannic but with the weight and flesh to back it up, amarena cherries, spice and tar, ripe acidity, very energetic and youthful for age, very structured, intense, flavoursome; very good length. Not my style at all but the quality is evident. The fruit may even outlive the tannins...

This is a fine example of a syrah based CdR which needs air to open and fully blossom. Day 1 was OK, maybe an 87. Day 2 the wine developed and filled out, as well as smoothed out and became the wine anticipated upon opening.
