  • Steely, flinty and quite acidic. Fruit not at the forefront. Probably in a closed phase on this occasion, which is a little strange.

  • On the nose this is immediately reminiscent of the reductive Coche style. This wine also has lots of acid, brighter citrus and a pronounced mineral tone. While the nose is quite oaked and does possess some of the classic meursault butter, the palate is refreshing and crisp in style. There’s also a bit of a fresh herb component here of clover and parsley here. Very nice.

  • Dinner at Brian's (Moonbeam View): One of a nice pair of 2001 d'Auvenay whites, this was a really impressive village in its own right, if rather overshadowed by the superb Meursault Narvaux that we had alongside. There was a great nose one this - cream, sweet corn, ripe yellow fruit, with perfumed flowers at the top of the bouquet, and little meaty notes forming the base. Lovely stuff. The palate was very lemony fresh, but also rich and powerful at the same time, showing ripe yellow fruited layers lined with bittersweet fruit pips, and then a nice bit of minerality with a dash of lemon zest in the long, grippy finish. Maybe not quite as deeply layered as the Meursault, but this was tremendously impressive for an Auxey-Duresses village.

  • Finished my last 2 bottles, nice light golden color, nose full of nuts and honey. Quite full bodied with good nuance in the palate, long finish with honey and minerals. Drinking very well now and probably wont get any better, drink up!

  • Had this with Pacalet. On the nose, it had sugarcane, caramel and popcorn. The structure of the wine was concentrated and dense. On the palate, the balance between fruit and acidity was just right. Comparing it to the d'Auvenay Bourgogne Aligote 2006 we had, this one was a better wine as it was more complex. The after-taste was long and enjoyable. It is drinking well now, and I think it will stay at this peak level for at least 5+ more years.
